Grid is where its at

http://www.isgtw.org/?pid=1000881

EGEE, Europe’s largest grid for a wide range of applications, is working with industry to help new businesses and old to capitalize on the open source grid technologies already developed.

Stephanie Parker, who chairs EGEE’s Industry Forum, says grids have a lot to offer. “The biggest selling point is that grids can save you money: companies can access more computing power without shelling out for new hardware. Grid delivers major value by improving business performance, by helping to get products to market faster, and by enabling companies to do new things.”

Check out this great article illustrating the benefits of grid technology. Many organizations have found that grid can be a real enabler to their business, whether you’re talking in terms of allocation resources dynamically between an application or activity, or through improved performance. In a pricing solution for example, the ability to price more accurately or more quickly than your competitor could be the difference between you making that deal and loosing it.

I was downloading some documents from the DataSynapse site and came along this article talking about a new member of the team Joe Schwartz, very cool, I wonder if this will bring any further developments in the company, it’s solutions or the way it communicates with the vendors and the end user communities.

Grid computing brings many benefits - what could they be for your business?

http://outervillage.com/content/grid-computing-and-its-advantages

Grid computing has been around for a few years now and its advantages are many. Grid computing can be defined in many ways but for these discussions let’s simply call it a way to execute compute jobs (e.g. perl scripts, database queries, etc.) across a distributed set of resources instead of one central resource. In the past most computing was done in silos or large SMP like boxes. Even today you’ll still see companies perform calculations on large SMP boxes (e.g. E10K’s, HP Superdomes). But this model can be quite expensive and doesn’t scale well.

Along comes grid computing and now we have the ability to distribute jobs to many smaller server components using load sharing software that distributes the load evenly based on resources and policies. Now instead of having one heavily burdened server the load is spread evenly across many smaller computer which can be spread around various locations.

Check out this interesting post about the benefits of grid/hpc computing. It can be a real enabler to your business whether its in terms of abstracting the end user from the ‘tin’ the infrastructure, or improving performance of your application/batch processing. It’s always good to read what benefits others see with the technology, do take a look!

DataSynapse and Informatica continue to innovate

http://www.datasynapse.com/en/newsroom/press_releases/datasynapse-partners-with-informatica-to-deliver-data-integration-solution-for-the-agile-enterprise.php

NEW YORK – Feb. 11, 2008 – DataSynapse, Inc., the leading provider of real-time infrastructure software that enables IT organizations to align with the changing demands of business, and Informatica (NASDAQ:  INFA), the leading independent provider of data integration solutions, today announced the availability of a joint solution for the agile enterprise that creates more agile, scaleable and manageable data integration environments for global corporations.  DataSynapse also announced that it will begin reselling Informatica’s PowerCenter Enterprise Grid Option.

To comply with regulatory requirements and effectively compete in today’s business world, enterprises rely on compute-intensive reporting and analytical data to deliver trusted information.  These applications are mission-critical and often experience performance issues and availability problems when having to scale quickly in the face of growing end-user demand and growing data volumes.

Check out this news from DataSynapse, a new solution derived from their FabricServer and Informatica’s PowerCenter. Anything we can do to make IT more on demand, to be able to scale the infrastructure around the business need has to be a good thing for IT and the end users.

DataSynapse continues to do well

http://www.gridtoday.com/grid/2003699.html

LONDON, Jan. 7 — DataSynapse Inc., the global provider of real-time infrastructure software, today announced that it experienced another solid year of growth in 2007, as it increased its sales year-over-year by more than 50 percent, while making significant additions to its product portfolio, executive leadership team and customer roster.

“For a company to remain successful in the rapidly evolving virtualization and real-time infrastructure markets, it has to be continuously listening to its customers, watching industry developments and refining its own technology,” said Dan Kusnetzky, president and principal analyst of Kusnetzky Group LLC. “Since its inception, DataSynapse has taken all the right steps in building and aligning its technology with the needs of the market.”

Very cool news for DataSynapse, and it highlights not only the opportunity in Grid/HPC computing but also around the way we manage the data center, the IT infrastructure.

Let me explain what I mean by this. Let’s take the average corporate, the challenge is not so much about the power of my infrastructure, IT’s ability to carry out that batch report for the risk guys, or for the web site to be fast enough, resilient enough. The challenge is to efficiently and effectively meet your service level agreements, your user experience.

That with Grid/HPC solutions we can define/work towards implementing SLA’s and allocating resources dynamically to achieve a set goal, a set application can be freeing to a business.

The ability to say to the credit guys, “you need more power?” for their batch because the traders have completed that rights issue, can not only improve the lead time to the end user, it can pay dividends in improving not only the perception of IT, but of your business.  Our system is 99.999% available and scalable to your business. - Great if you’re attempting to get a business deal, a rights issue in the bond market etc.

DataSynapse releases FabricServer 2.5

http://www.datasynapse.com

LONDON – 14 January 2008 – DataSynapse, Inc. today announced the launch of its FabricServer™ 2.5 software, an enabling platform for achieving real-time infrastructure.  The latest version of DataSynapse’s enterprise application virtualisation platform is the only commercially available software that configures, activates and scales applications based on business demands and policies.  With the new version of FabricServer, DataSynapse customers can create real-time infrastructure environments that dynamically allocate computing resources to enterprise applications – lowering existing operational costs and reducing data centre growth by increasing resource utilisation

Real-time infrastructure is IT infrastructure that dynamically responds to business demand and enables the timely and cost-effective delivery of new business services.  According to Donna Scott, vice president at Gartner Inc., in the “Hype Cycle for IT Operations Management, 2007” report (published 22 June 2007), “Real-time infrastructure has three value propositions expressed as business goals:  reduced costs, achieved by better, more-efficient resource usage and by reduced IT operations management costs; improved service levels, achieved by dynamic tuning of IT services; and increased agility, achieved by rapid provisioning of new services or resources and scaling of established services.”

The latest release of FabricServer improves the end-to-end user experience for business applications by allocating computing resources based on business demand, business calendar, service level agreements (SLAs) or transactional priority.  The 2.5 version contains DataSynapse Studio™ software, the first developer tool for real-time environments that automates and standardises the testing, deployment and packaging of enterprise applications.  The updated release also provides seamless integration with DataSynapse VersaVision™ software, the company’s business reporting and analytics platform, which provides visibility into real-time infrastructure and the enterprise applications that run on it.

“Dynamic configuration, activation and scaling of enterprise applications will have a dramatic impact on the manner in which organisations manage their data centres,” stated Barry Childe, director, head of High Performance Computing at Barclays Capital.  “I believe that IT organisations can be much more proactive going forward in implementing real-time strategies for managing costs and growth.”

With the latest version of FabricServer, IT organisations can focus on simplifying application management, application deployment and increase operational efficiency and agility.  Business benefits include:

  • Reduced data centre operations costs and growth rates through improved utilisation rates of servers in the data centre.
  • Improved business user experience through allocation of computing resources based on business demand, business calendar, service level agreements or transactional priority.

“With support for the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0, Internet Information Server and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 in FabricServer 2.5, DataSynapse is enabling Microsoft’s enterprise customers to better meet business goals by creating an IT infrastructure that continuously adapts to support new applications and capabilities,” said, Dino Chiesa, director in the Connected Systems Division, at Microsoft.

The latest release of FabricServer, which will be generally available in Q1 2008, includes the following key new features:

  • DataSynapse Studio:  A development tool for configuring enterprise applications for a real-time IT environment.
  • Support for Microsoft Application Platforms:  Supports .NET Framework 3.0, Internet Information Server and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 alongside existing support for Java, J2EE, Legacy and COTS/ISV applications – many of the technologies in the application portfolio of DataSynapse’s enterprise customers.
  • Command-Line Interface:  Enables integration with enterprise scripting languages to automate packaging and deployment of enterprise applications.

“If businesses operate in real-time, then so should their IT infrastructures,” said Jamie Bernardin, president, CTO and co-founder, DataSynapse.  “Our technology is proven to help customers create real-time environments today.  With FabricServer software, DataSynapse has made it dramatically easier for IT organisations to deliver on the promises of on-demand computing, utility computing and shared SOA services.”

Very cool, I love the idea in terms of the “real time infrastructure.” The idea that we can move the IT to a commodity, to a model based on service provisioning, where an application developer or business sponsor states the business needs, letting IT work out what is needed.

“I have a batch which runs 9-5, it’s more important in terms of user experience than commodities, can you fix it please”.

A real time infastructure where workload/processing requirements are moved around the infrastructure to be more energy efficient, more effective in terms of delivery/scalability, but importantly abstracted from the day to day issues with running an IT infrastructure. The kind of concept Where an outage of server8 doesn’t mean my pricing stops which breaks the back office reporting.

In essence, running your pricing system should be as commoditized from an infrastructure scenario as the email system - IT just is.  Anything DataSynapse can do to aid this process has to be a good thing; that FabricServer now features a development tool to aid development, supprots Microsoft Applications and has a command line interface sounds like interesting developments, I’ll need to take a look at it.

DataSynapse continues to do well

http://www.datasynapse.com

LONDON – 07 January 2008 – DataSynapse, Inc., the global provider of real-time infrastructure software, today announced that it experienced another solid year of growth in 2007, as it increased its sales year-over-year by more than 50 per cent, while making significant additions to its product portfolio, executive leadership team and customer roster.

“For a company to remain successful in the rapidly evolving virtualisation and real-time infrastructure markets, it has to be continuously listening to its customers, watching industry developments and refining its own technology,” said Dan Kusnetzky, president and principal analyst, Kusnetzky Group LLC.  “Since its inception, DataSynapse has taken all the right steps in building and aligning its technology with the needs of the market.”

According to IDC, the virtualisation market will grow to $11.7 billion by 2011 as businesses turn to the technology to address data centre issues.  In preparation for continued market growth in 2008 and beyond, DataSynapse strengthened its executive management in 2007 and deepened its alliance roster.  Expanding its global presence, DataSynapse teamed with more companies throughout Asia and Europe to complement its 13-country customer base.  DataSynapse also announced significant enhancements to one of its flagship solutions and introduced the first commercial product that provides visibility and analytics for virtualisation infrastructures.

“With a large global base of partners and clients and an expanded product portfolio, DataSynapse is well positioned to continue enabling enterprises to capitalise on the promise of application virtualisation and better align IT with business growth,” said Peter Lee, CEO and co-founder, DataSynapse.  “We look forward to delivering on the promise of real-time infrastructure so that companies in a wide range of markets can run their IT infrastructures in real time like their businesses.”

Well done to DataSynapse, it will be interesting to see what news, what products they bring out to further their business and the grid platform. Grid technologies can be a great enabler as many financial and non-financial companies have found. The ability to abstract the application from the infrastructure can allow for a more dynamic IT infrastructure. To break the components of the application or batch down and effectively schedule workload between devices can bring real improvements in performance, reliability and assist with the audit trail for compliance.

DataSynapse gains award in Financial Services solutions

http://www.gridtoday.com/grid/1913848.html

LONDON, Nov. 27 — DataSynapse Inc., the global provider of application virtualization software, has been recognized by Financial-i as the leader in virtualization solutions for the financial services industry. The accolade was extended through the magazine’s annual “Leaders in Innovation Awards” for 2007.

The awards are decided by an industry advisory panel comprised of leading analyst firms and consultants covering the wholesale transaction banking markets, including Celent, TowerGroup and Bloor. They commend those banks and IT vendors that are shaping the delivery of business solutions in the financial services industry.

Judging criteria focused on product innovation over the last 12 to 18 months, cost effectiveness of solutions in terms of implementation and deployment, potential business benefits, ease of implementation and the ability to tackle specific business issues or problems.

Very cool and well done to DataSynapse. I look forward to seeing what new solutions DataSynapse bring to the market, VersaVision being an example of this.

Regardless of whether you use DataSynapse or Platform, Tangosol or something else, that grid or application virtualization is being recongized shows the potential areas of growth and opportunity in the grid arena, as well as the potential business benefits. In pricing for example, being able to price on demand more quickly than your competition can be the difference between what my economist lecturer would state ‘normal’ and ’supernormal’ profit.
