It’s arrived!
My new HP ProLiant MicroServer. If you don’t know what a MicroServer is, you’re missing a treat, it’s HP’s entry level accessible server and as a platform and a device quite simply it rocks.
From my standpoint it’s a solution in a box and it’s the SMB gateway to cloud either in streaming applications from the cloud to your office, or using it as your first server and your gateway to a range of cloud services from backup to email and applications as a service.
The first version was launched with an AMD dual core processor, this new version that arrived today is the Gen8 edition which is based on the Intel Celeron or Pentium dual core processor, which is very cool. Over the next few days I’ll be testing it and going through the various options and use case scenarios.
Our MicroServer history:
N40L – runs Windows 2008 and is my trusted file and application server – since upgraded to 8GB RAM and extra storage added
N54L – runs VMware ESX for my ‘lab in a box solution’ it’s been upgraded to include additional memory and storage
