The HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 is a small, quiet, and stylishly designed server that is ideal as a first server solution for small businesses. With a form factor that is easy to use and service, it helps small businesses drive down their expenses while improving productivity, efficiency, and security.

HP released their new MicroServer which updates the server bringing it in line with the newer Gen8 design. Most importantly there are significant improvements as part of the re-design of the server, it remains one of our favourite servers due to price and specification, an ideal NAS, start server or virtual lab which I’ve written about before.

The summary is below:

  • Dual Core Intel Celeron or Pentium processors
  • 16GB RAM
  • Support for 12TB storage
  • Integrated Lights Out 4

The changes are welcome and increase the functionality and the scalability of the server, as an entry level server or a lab, I remain a fan of the concept as it extends the accessibility to the platform for business users and those wanting a vehicle to learn the fundamentals of a technology like VMware or Windows/Linux as well as HP support methodologies, service packs and firmware etc.
