UK datacentres are unprepared for the massive changes that big data will bring to the enterprises and their IT facilities, a study of 125 senior IT decision makers by Research Now has revealed.

While IT executives are clear about the types of applications they will need to deploy to manage big data requirements in the next two years, they are not yet planning for the real increase in data volumes that these applications will need, the study further showed.

An article talking about UK data centers not being ready for Big Data, a topic of conversation that I have witnessed colleagues slowly start to talk about, Hadoop and Big Data are entering the ‘normal landscape’. That said I’m not so sure if it’s only the data center that isn’t ready as much as the organization and the user base. We need to be leveraging data, using data efficiently not only to deliver better service and creating revenue opportunities for our customers but also in some respects to manage liability, unexpected availability to data can be as much a benefit as an operational cost.

We need to understand what Big Data means to us and our business, how we see it as relevant and how we plan to leverage it in our business, whether it’s to limit liability and improve revenues or brand awareness through customer engagement, or identifying trends and analytics to generate opportunity and revenue, do check out the article.
