Thursday – this means it’s server of the week
Welcome to my first server of the week post, it’s a simple concept, I’m going to write a post every Thursday to provide an overview of a server, either a rack or tower or blade, display the specs, it’s typical use case and links to the product information? Why, it keeps us all informed and allows me to feature vendors which might not be getting the same level of exposure as well as cover platforms that we might not be overly familiar with, it also shares knowledge and plurality in the server space. If you want your server featured or have a suggestions do get in touch – martin237@gmail.com, I just need a picture, some background and the links to your site.
So this weeks’ server is the Dell PowerEdge R720:
It’s one of their re-designed and innovative new 12th generation PowerEdge servers which have been significantly improved as a result of customer feedback and investment in the Dell server offering. The basics then:
- 2x Intel Xeon E5-2600 processors
- 768GB RAM
- Up to 16 small form factor 2.5inch hard drives
- 7 PCIe slots
- Either 4x 1GB Network interfaces or 2x 10GB Ethernet on board
- Their new iDRAC 7 management interface
The specs then and product information live at this URL.
It’s key strengths/use cases for me – virtualization, database or application server including low latency deployments.
