Final day at HP Discover

The final day at HP Discover was composed of a series of coffee talks and meetings with a variety of HP teams talking about a range of items, I’ve gone over them below, the highlight was meeting the ‘Tinker Twins’, Chris and Greg Tinker, they are HP Master Technologists providing HP’s support teams with escalation and advice.

Talking Cloud

It was interesting to hear about what the different consultants were thinking and experiencing in the cloud space, not only from what HP had to offer in cloud as a service, but also the services around cloud that HP provide including security etc. We also participated in a conversation over twitter which was very cool, we’ve set it up every Thursday at 1pm, you can follow it #convcloud, we had one a few days ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I was talking about cloud in the enterprise space.

HP Social Media Services offering

It was great to hear about HP Social Media Services, a new service aimed at optimizing organizations’ social media monitoring and engagement based around an offering which can be adapted to meet the business drivers and requirements.  The example used was that 1% of the social media users can influence up to 33% of the market place illustrating the power of social media as well as the importance of your organizations influence in this space. It was explained how with HP technology we could leverage their monitoring and analytic tools to cover topics such as sentiment analysis, brand defense, first contact resolution through to service to sales, being able to scan the web and put the information in context to allow the relevant teams to contact customers, influences and decision makers as appropriate. You can read more here or the web site here.

Big Data

Next we had a chat about Big Data and what HP are working on this space, what it means for organizations and how it can be a challenge as much as an opportunity with some real world examples of how analysis both of raw data and the data put into context by tools like Autonomy and Vertica can deliver interesting and exciting results as well as possibilities for revenue generations.

Tinker Twins

The chat with the Tinker Twins which was great. The Tinker Twins are Master Technologists working for HP in the support space, working with customers to identify and resolve technical challenges, they are very much on the front line working with customers, across the vendor spaces to support ‘always-on’ platforms and solutions. They discussed some key challenges for them, what they have been working on as well as some examples of how they get involved in incidents or issues, you can find out more about them here.
