HP today announced that Singapore Exchange (SGX), the world’s seventh-largest listed exchange, has selected HP Converged Infrastructure technology to enhance trade execution and expand capacity.

To be the premier trading gateway of Asia, SGX will invest $210 million in an organic growth strategy that includes an advanced trading system to ensure a rapid, reliable and accurate experience for customers.

The new, upgraded SGX Reach trading system incorporates HP ProLiant BL 460c G7 server blades and c7000 BladeSystem, NASDAQ OMX trading software, and Mellanox Technologies 40Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and switches. It offers 10 times the capacity of the previous system and enables SGX to cut order-entry latency to less than 90 microseconds. As a result, SGX can deliver increased trading volume, efficiency and accuracy to its customers.

“SGX Reach provides our customers with the world’s fastest trading engine and delivers ultra-low latency response times of less than 90 microseconds door to door,” said Bob Caisley, chief information officer, SGX. “Such powerful trading capabilities put SGX at the forefront of the Asian marketplace, allowing us to aggressively compete at a global level.”

It’s always interesting to read about what technologies organizations are using and to understand their drivers for doing so, in this case using HP Blade technology with their Converged Infrastructure allowed the Singapore Exchange to reduce their execution times and extend capacity which is very cool, I’m off to read up more.

A majority of respondents to a survey of 130 Hewlett-Packard (HP) customers in the United States with at least 500 employees have become concerned with the direction the company is taking, according to Technology Business Research (TBR)1 . Customers surveyed in TBR’s September 2011 research indicated Dell would likely be their provider of choice if they decide to make a change having received the highest mean score amongst alternative vendors the study suggested2.

“These survey findings confirm what Dell has been hearing from CIOs as many are now questioning if they have the right long-term technology partner for their business,” said Tim Mattox, vice president of Enterprise Product Marketing at Dell. “In a world in which technology is changing faster than ever before, our customers rely on their IT partners to help them grow and evolve from the end point to the data center. Dell is unwavering in our dedication to helping customers get the most from their technology investment over the long term and will continue to innovate and invest in end-to-end technology solutions.”

The more Dell can capitalise not only on the technology side, getting their products just right like they did with their latest range of rack and blade servers, that they can also captialise on their service expertise from the SMB needing online backups for their email, through to the cloud based virtualization infrastructure on demand solutions.

HP have made a potentially exciting purchase with autonomy according to colleagues that have been using it in the enterprise, that they can integrate it’s offering with those of 3PAR and 3COM to further invest in complete end to end infrastructure for their customers could be transformational. After a series of articles, decisions and announcements affecting HP, it’s time to return to message, focus on their customers, on their product offerings, on innovation not only for HP, but for the industry and end user communities alike.

The challenge facing all the vendors these days is not so much as which is the best server, the best switch, but more which series of products interoperate with the least amount of complication, which offers the most features, least operational overhead and cost, which then is the highest delivering not necessarily at the lowest but most efficient cost. I’m not opposed to spending money, but we need to be spending in the right ways on the right products and services to deliver the right level of service to the right target market at the right cost and level or resilience.

HP Enterprise Services today announced clients across multiple industries and government agencies have selected the company to help drive innovation by delivering application flexibility.

Research conducted on behalf of HP found that 75 percent of enterprises consider it more important to add new value and be innovative in the applications delivered to meet the needs of the business compared to two years ago.(1) However, most enterprises struggle with maintaining unresponsive, rigid applications, which can consume up to 70 percent of IT budgets, leaving few resources to invest in innovation.

HP helps clients address these challenges and become more innovative through applications transformation, which is key to delivering an Instant-On Enterprise that embeds technology in everything it does to serve customers.

Anything the vendors can do to help their customers with their IT challenges whether it is working with IT teams to improve deployment times, extend the life of their data center, or ready applications and services for the cloud, for next generation infrastructure. That we continue to collaborate and empower businesses and customers through effective technologies, through provisioning services on time, on time and to the right target market, can be the difference between the next big sale, between white labelling services to new markets, to being able to earn more revenue and not. Being agile as a vendor, as a service provider, as IT though remains just as important as the business sponsor being able to ask the right questions, know what it is they want, what the business drivers are and be able to translate those into a request for capacity, for infrastructure or services.

During his keynote presentation today, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison announced Oracle Social Network, an enterprise collaboration and social networking tool for business.
Oracle Social Network enables business users to find and collaborate with the right people within their enterprise and across enterprises – for example, with suppliers, partners and customers – using information from the human resources system and their own private social network.
Oracle Social Network enables business users to collaborate with each other using a broad range of collaboration tools, including personal profiles, groups, activity feeds, status updates, discussion forums, document sharing, co-browsing and editing, instant messaging, email, and web conferencing.
It’s great to see Oracle putting the right tools and technologies in place to help further collaboration within the enterprise, the more we can exchange information, collaborate and deliver projects, bring solutions, the more opportunities for revenue generation, client fulfilment and transformation. The next generation enterprise is the social one, an enterprise in which we leverage the best of the enterprise and the individual, in which we empower end users not only in terms of the infrastructure  but also in terms of collaboration and communication. Very exciting, it will be interesting to see what range of technologies and tools have been packaged to deliver this solution, I’m off to check it out.

HP and SAP AG today announced an agreement for HP Enterprise Services to provide cloud-based delivery of SAP® applications that enable enterprises to deploy applications in a scalable and affordable manner.

The combination of these solutions will empower enterprise customers to dramatically increase the availability and speed of business information, leading to faster and more insightful decision making.

The first SAP application to be delivered by HP Enterprise Services via its cloud platform is the SAP® Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) rapid-deployment solution, which can enhance the productivity of enterprise sales, marketing and service professionals.

Delivered via HP Enterprise Services’ commercial data centers around the globe, the SAP CRM rapid-deployment solution brings together software and services that provide essential CRM functionality, quickly and affordably, while helping clients reduce risk. Clients are provided secure processing capacity – with security and privacy policies that can rapidly adjust to meet each client’s specific needs.

HP bundles the necessary infrastructure, platform and application services in an as-a-service model, enabling clients to pay on a per-seat basis for what they need to run the applications and processes.

“Cloud delivery models are becoming a top priority for clients due to their quick deployments, cost-effectiveness and overall flexibility,” said Eric Clark, vice president, Enterprise Application Services, HP Enterprise Services. “In collaboration with SAP, HP is empowering clients to dramatically increase the availability and speed of business information via the cloud, paving a flexible path toward future growth.”

Being able to pay on use, to consume the services you need for your business be they virtualization capacity, Exchange, HPC or SAP can be an empowering experience, allowing your business teams to focus the efforts and revenue/spend in the areas that add real value remains key. That HP are offering cloud based SAP might not only allow customers to leverage or capitalise through new capabilities in leveraging capacity or new features from SAP provisioned Cloud Services, it might also create opportunity for customers that previously perceived SAP solutions as inaccessible due to the infrastructure costs involved or expertise required to deliver it as a service.

London, 29th September 2011 — G4S, the world’s leading security solutions group, has signed a £32.9 million contract with Fujitsu UK & Ireland to provide business-critical IT infrastructure and services support over seven years. The company is looking to increase its overall agility and support business growth while reducing costs.

The G4S server and storage estate will be split between two of Fujitsu’s tier III data centres, with dual connections for disaster recovery. Fujitsu will use its cloud-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) architecture to deliver applications. The end-user experience will be boosted by Windows 7 migration and a Citrix desktop virtualisation, in conjunction with AppSense, across c.3,500 desktops and laptops, and 10,500 email clients to facilitate and enhance remote working.

HP today announced it has appointed Bethany Mayer to serve as senior vice president and general manager of the HP Networking business unit, effective immediately.

Mayer, who has served as the unit’s interim leader for the past four months, oversees HP Networking’s worldwide operations, reporting to Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager of Enterprise Servers, Storage, Networking and Technology Services at HP.

Mayer has recently led several successful product launches, including new networking solutions for small and midsize businesses, virtualized networking solutions and HP TippingPoint network security offerings.

In addition, she has strengthened HP Networking’s position as the No. 2 vendor in the networking market – one of only two vendors worldwide with double-digit market share.(1) HP FlexNetwork architecture enables customers to deliver higher-bandwidth, greater-performing networks that are easier to manage and use less equipment.

HP is making a series of innovations in the networking space to improve their offerings for its customers, we at Bladewatch wish Bethany Mayer (who’s taking over the HP Networking business) all the very best and look forward to further innovations in the networking space. Anything we can do to improve efficiency, create opportunity and innovation in the virtualization space has to be good for HP, the industry and end user choice alike.

Reading, UK – October 11, 2011 – Neverfail®, a leading global software company specialising in affordable continuous availability and disaster recovery solutions, today announced the release of Neverfail Virtual Availability Director. This new offering harnesses Neverfail’s advanced server protection technology combined with VMware’s vSphere Client application to provide a single console from which administrators can manage and maintain the continuous availability of all business-critical applications, whether they reside on physical or virtual resources.

Server virtualization has been growing at a tremendous rate for all business applications, including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint as well as bespoke accounting and finance tools.  VMware vSphere has been the go-to platform of choice to manage these virtual environments, and yet while server virtualization does introduce some basic availability options, the inability to manage physical servers or heterogeneous environments through virtualization solutions like vSphere has become a challenge. This has become particularly evident as end-users increasingly demand a complete business continuity solution to ensure tier-1 applications are protected, regardless of where they reside.

It’s great to see the team at Neverfail further innovate their offering to assist with virtual environments across the application and infrastructure space. I’ve been speaking with some companies and end users that have been praising their solutions featuring Neverfail technology. Regardless of where you are in the IT ecosphere, that your disaster recovery or business continuity solution works for your business is key, everything else, the underlying technology is white noise, anything software and infrastructure teams can do to make business continuity or high availability just that little bit easier has to be a good thing. I’m off to read up more about their virtual offering.
