I got an email from Shirley:
“How can I tell if my server hard drive is rebuilding or has finished rebuilding, we’ve just had the engineer swap a failed drive in our DL380?”
Great question Shirley, there are three main ways to do this easily.
- Check the event logs, it should have entries like this
- Drive removed – with some drive serial number and slot information: 72827373F4 removed from slot 0
- Drive inserted – again with some serial number and slot information: 124847F89B inserted to stot 0.
- Drive status change to (I think it’s 7 rebuilding).
- Then a message saying drive status (with a number stating rebuilt)
- Run the HP Array configuration utility – either remotely or by logging on to the server, it should show the status of the array or the drive rebuilding.
- Look at the front of the server, the drive that’s been swapped should be flashing green to illustrate the drive rebuilding.
On the Dell/IBM or equivalent there are software equivalent tools which I will cover shortly to illustrate how to tell if a drive has been replaced successfully.
