Daimler AG, the car giant, has consolidated its datcentre management contracts and appointed Fujitsu Siemens to manage 5,000 servers and 1,500 databases in its European Data Centre.
The contract, for an undisclosed sum, will run for three years. The EDC offers a range of IT services to Daimler companies worldwide, including server operations and the integration of new hardware, databases and applications.
Fujitsu Siemens will run Daimler’s Stuttgart facility and offshore some work to Bangalore to allow the car company to reduce costs.
It’s always great to see the scale that can be achieved through consolidation of the server estate or the data center. It’s not just the corporate social responsibility aspect or the financial savings; its the business empowerment that you gain from knowing first of all what runs where, what capacity we have, what the operational constraints are to achieve my business goals. That I need extra capacity for the design team for their calculation runs, can that run overnight in Singapore? An interesting read, do check it out.
