SGI servers get greener

MarketWatch

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug 13, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ — As more organizations look for ways to battle soaring energy costs, SGI today announced that all its blade-based servers incorporate 80 PLUS(R) certified power supplies. The certification signifies that all SGI blade servers meet aggressive efficiency and power factor criteria across the full range of operating conditions.

The energy efficiency of SGI servers translates into lower power and cooling costs for customers. SGI servers also reduce the environmental footprint of data centers by significantly reducing carbon emissions associated with powering today’s data centers.

Well done to SGI in gaining recognition for the energy efficiency of their servers. I was talking to a colleague who was looking at SGI blades as part of a grid solution.

The more options and solutions based on energy efficient platforms, the more choice for the end user which has to be a good thing.
