Windows 2008 to make Recovery easier?

In the ever-evolving realm of disaster recovery, Windows Server 2008 has some interesting features related to Active Directory that can have some important benefits for your company. As an IT manager, you must continually be on top of disaster recovery methods so that you can recover critical data in the event of hardware or software failure or human error and are able to restore infrastructure servers in a timely fashion. Good disaster recovery planning helps prevent – or at least minimise — downtime and disruption to employees.

A good disaster recovery plan is critical for Active Directory because AD holds all the security mechanisms needed to access data, and it holds the infrastructure together. In recent years, Microsoft has improved disaster recovery functions for Active Directory. In particular, Windows Server 2008 contains a number of new features worth evaluating for your disaster recovery plan.

I remain excited about what Windows 2008 can bring in terms of functionality, anything that can improve system resilience, better reporting of issues, and key improvements in clustering has to be a good thing. I wonder if they have made any improvements in clustering, making it easier to manage and troubleshoot particularly in partnership with the SAN storage software/solutions that we have would be welcome. I need to download it and try it out.

It might be a while before enterprises switch to Windows 2008 (in the finance sectors anyway), particularly as many organizations are still running Windows 2000, upgrading to a new operating system requires the application code to be updated and validated before we can proceed, which tends to be a time consuming and cost intensive activity.
