Thoughts on the 3G iPhone - do I need one?

I’ve been waiting for the 3G iPhone for the last few months and last Friday was watching as I walked to work past the numerous Carphone Warehouse and O2 stores, seeing the queues of people waiting patiently to get one of these devices. There were numerous articles comparing the different alternatives to the iPhone from Samsung, from Sony Ericsson, indeed my brother’s site www.smstextnews.com had many articles with reviews and feedback from people buying their iPhone.

So have I got one?

No and I’m kind of surprised at myself.

There has been an unwritten agreement with myself that when the 3G iPhone came out, that I’d get one, but I’ve yet to commit. I thought I would explain why I haven’t got one and talk about the phone itself.

Reasons why I need an iPhone:

  • The interface is actually very good
  • It’s 3G for faster Internet
  • My email, my calendar etc will just work
  • It’s stable and would allow me to carry just my iPhone and recycle my iPod nano.

Colleagues have bought them, shown how pleased they are with the device, how easy it is to use, how fast the Internet is, how they can download applications, check their hotmail email, watch movies and listen to music.

But it’s on O2, I’m not. Do I really want to sign a contract and have two phones? I’m happy with Vodafone.

Is the keyboard really ok for emailing? I’ve used an iPhone and played at sending texts, but is it as easy to get used to as a blackberry?

  1. Vodafone and Keyboard.

These are the two very words that have been troubling me.
