Companies don’t need to build a whole new datacentre to begin saving on energy. Below are some steps recommended by Burton Group analyst Andrew Kutz that enterprises can take in their existing datacentres to save on power consumption:

Could simply changing the layout, aid the air flow allowing me to turn down the amount of cooling needed? At the same time, of equal importance is the temperature of the data center, by raising it ever so slightly, could we not reduce our cooling/operational costs significantly? In terms of the hardware reliability argument, you might find any increase in the support cost is offset by the savings through reduced energy consumption.
