I often talk about firmware, it’s one of those things that people sometimes don’t think about in terms of system management.

Upgraded firmware is released in order to provide extra functionality or to resolve known issues, as a result when you log a call with any vendor, you’ll tend to find that the first thing they will ask is you run the diagnostics and you verify that the correct firmware is installed.

To help with this, I’ve added a firmware page on the blog. This is by no means definitive, I will be updating it on a monthly basis. I always suggest you check the vendors’ site, for that reason their will be links to that specific server and it’s online firmware.

Do ensure you test the firmware before deploying across your server estate, and note that if you’re upgrading system firmware you should also consider the array, lights out and disk firmware as well to keep everything in line with the manufacturer guidelines.

A slight note, I wont be publishing every vendors’ server and firmware revisions due to constraints, though I will try and cover a reasonable range of servers. If you have any suggestions, do get in touch.
