Corus to outsource elements of the IT

Steel manufacturer Corus has extended its IT outsourcing deal to manage its mainframe computers with Capgemini through a number of contracts totalling £26m.

The new five-year outsourcing contracts will run through to 2013, with some of the IT work being offshored to Capgemini’s operations in India and Poland, as part of plans to significantly reduce mainframe running costs.

Overall service management will be handled by Capgemini in the UK, with operational management done from its command centre in Krakow, Poland and additional technical support from a Capgemini centre in Mumbai, India.

I raised this article as I have been doing some research, some interviews with different individuals about outsourcing the IT, the development and the support, how people have found this. What the different viewpoints are etc. Outsourcing elements of the IT function have come increasingly popular as a vehicle to achieving a project, elements of IT service or as a cost benefit/business enablement.
