My new Nokia

http://europe.nokia.com/A4515079

I took the big decision about two weeks ago to switch mobile networks. I did think about changing my number, but I’ve had it nine years and the thought made me emotional.

I’ve been with T-mobile for about nine years, I know them backwards, I know their price plans, all the numbers to call and was their biggest supporter to anyone who asked me about mobile networks. – Just go with Tmobile I used to say.

All that changed about a year ago. It was a number of things really.

Firstly I discovered that the new tarriff meant I had to pay for voicemail – pay for voicemail? That was the very reason that I had joined one2one (now Tmobile).

Secondly, I’d been doing a lot of roaming, one month I remember my mobile bill was £1000 or so, I asked if I could upgrade my phone mid contract and was told there was absolutely no way this could be done. I then waited to the end of my contract and asked for an upgrade, “absolutely” said the nice man from Tmobile, it’s £100 for the phone, hang on I replied ever so nicely, I’ve spent about £3000 this year on my mobile bill, am I not eligible for a discount? Some frantic typing was heard, yes if you sign for 18 months. 18 months. I reluctantly agreed thinking, it’s only 18 months, and Tmobile are ok.

More recently though, my phone started displaying the network busy message when trying to make calls. I thought it was the phone so upgraded the firmware/Nokia software. To be fair it didn’t happen that often, but when it did, it encouraged and emotional Martin MacLeod and on the basis of life being too short, I switched to Vodafone.

In the interests of being open, I pay for voicemail on Vodafone – paying for voicemail something that really shouldn’t be the case in 2008.

Funny I am just about to go the other way as I was stung for £2K in 7 days on the vodafone data card. Voda won’t bother even investigating never mind accept any liability for faulty hardware or security breech and my DD went through before I coudl stop it.

It’s their piss poor customer service and rip off data charges that is pushing me to a better data provider, i.e. T-Mobile.

I hate VM and use SpinVox to convert them to text messages.

I have months to run on the Voda contract so I will look and learn.
