BT has announced its first major data centre IT outsourcing contract in the Asia Pacific region.

The firm will collaborate with CLSA Asia Pacific Markets, a leading Hong Kong investment company and brokerage, to upgrade and manage the latter’s data centre.

BT will upragde the software and hardware for CLSA, installing a new Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and cooling system, while providing 24-hour management through an on-site team.

An interesting article highlighting that outsourcing elements of the IT infrastructure continues and in this case BT has announced a new deal, great news. I’m interested to see the data center is in Hong Kong, I wonder if we’ll see these kind of deals comingon stream in China or other new markets as the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China), countries introduce new consumers to a range of services all of which need the IT infrastructure to deliver them, whether we’re talking about Internet, or picture text messaging.

I wonder if we’ll see more outsourcing of the data center, especially for specific projects/tasks – can I have a grid solution with 3000 blades please…
