BT benefits from virtualization

Interesting case-study from BT, delivered by Stefan Overtveldt, BT Global Services Vice President and Head of IT Transformation Practice at VMworld Europe (check our video coverage) today: they’re using virtualization technologies to run its network of data centres around the globe more effectively, improve service customer service delivery and save no less than 50 % on its overall running costs.

An interesting post talking about how BT used virtualization to be more efficient in terms of customer service and reducing it’s operational costs. Very cool, it’s always good to read not only how companies are deploying the technologies, but how they are benefiting from it’s deployment – what it perceives are the benefits to its business, whether it’s abstracting the service from the hardware, or reducing the hardware support contract through reducing the range of physical servers deployed.
