Got this email below from Daniel.
“Hi Martin,
I’ve only been playing with servers for a few months, I work for an accountants in Yorkshire and we have 3x DL380′s (the beige ones). Anyway one of them has started appearing orange in the HP Systems Insight Manager tool I downloaded. When I log on to the server from the console it says “General Failure” for power supply one. Do you know what this means? Is my power supply failing?
Do I need to upgrade the drivers?
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
Great news sir, right your DL380 sounds like the power cable might be loose, it’s happened to me before, just make sure the power cable is plugged in properly and that should fix it. If that doesn’t work, I would wait until 6 (or whenever everyone’s going home) shut the server down, unplug both power cables, count to five then remove the power supplies one at a time then plug them back in.
I’m pretty sure it’s just a loose power cable, and I’m not sure if upgrading the drivers will fix this. Updating the drivers is always good (in terms of best practice) but make sure the firmware is up to date first, and if in doubt leave it.
Regards
Martin
