I got an email from ‘Daniel’. He’s been given a DL380G1 and he wanted to get it working with Windows, he’s been having problems with Smartstart 5.5. “I get a blank screen just after Smartstart runs and then it fails, have you seen this before?”.

I’ve had it a few times when I’ve been rebuilding the server on different models. Re-run smartstart and run a system erase, if it has failed trying to create the system/diagnostic partition you can continue and set everything up yourself but it wont take long to re-run the erase and start again. If you’re getting a blank screen on smartstart generally, I’d try checking all the firmware, check all the components are seated properly/re-seat the basic components. The System erase utility is available separately from the HP site, meaning you can download it onto a floppy and wipe the configuration to default so when you boot from smartstart everything should be fine.
