Security in the virtual world

http://gregness.wordpress.com/2007/11/14/virtsec-podcast-emc-vp-chuck-hollis/

This ten minute podcast by EMC VP Chuck Hollis is an excellent high level overview of the impact of security (called the “s” word) on virtualization, especially in 2008.

Security of the virtual platform whether you’re using VMWare, Xen or Sun’s xVM is just as important as it would be in the physical world. As we virtualize the server, the network and the storage, the traditional barriers which in themselves were a form of security are reduced through tools like V-motion etc.

Interestingly, this becomes even more important as you start to give business lines or application teams the access they might need to their systems – the concept of console access for that in-house application, to the analysts logging in to check the capacity of the ESX server or view the infrastructure. Check out this podcast taking about security in the virtual world.
