Germany’s Commerzbank has outsourced the management of 33,000 workstations and 12,000 printers to Hewlett Packard (HP) as part of a five year IT services deal.
Under the agreement HP will deliver to Commerzbank a range of IT services, from infrastructure provision to desktop lifecycle management, as part of the HP End User Workplace portfolio.
The vendor says it will provide Commerzbank with desktop, network, print and server management as well as help desk services.
Commerzbank says the deal will allow it to focus on core business processes, standardise IT services worldwide and help lower its costs.
“This agreement will help Commerzbank achieve cost savings and variable costs as well as help drive IT innovation to support our growth,” says Frank Annuscheit, Group COO, Commerzbank.
Very cool, these kind of deals are becoming increasingly popular and a way of achieving cost savings and allowing you to focus on your core business or your core IT services. An interesting article, check it out. I wonder if they had though of virtualizing the desktop? Could this have been an alternative?

I can see this happening where I work especially as there is going to be a switch from Dell to Lenovo for Desktop/Laptop hardware – Although I am on the understanding that Citrix will be the longer term strategic approach thus reducing the overall site footprint.
As for the outsourcing of print functions – I have spent some time of late speak to my print specialist friend “goffy”…he told me how much they could undercut the likes of HP with their multifunction print offerings this is not only the cost per page/maintenance but reduction in power consumption.
