In our recent BusinessGreen web seminar on the practical steps IT managers can take to limit their firm’s environmental footprint, we put viewers’ questions to a panel of three experts. The panellists were: John Madden, research director at industry analyst Ovum; Martin Niemer, senior product marketing manager for Europe at virtualisation software specialist VMware; and Ian Osborne, project director for trade association Intellect’s Grid Computing Now initiative. Implementing a green computing initiative for your company corporate social responsibility is not only great in those terms, looking at how you use energy to supply the IT, can enable you to make small and large changes in the way you deliver the IT service which can be a real business enabler. For example having a virtual infrastructure is more energy efficient, and also allows you to provision systems more quickly to dynamically resources in line with the business need.
