Banking goliath HSBC has unveiled its latest green IT strategy which will trial new technology and champion data centres.

In a bid to highlight its green credentials and energy saving processes, HSBC has detailed an IT plan which shows its technological initiatives are an investment rather than a cost.

HSBC environmental adviser Francis Sullivan told Vnunet.com: “IT directors need to look for win-win situations, which means choosing the right IT solution to reduce energy consumption and cost to the business while reducing CO2 emissions.”

Very cool and well done to HSBC, interestingly as more and more banks/organizations start talking about the green message, it becomes the industry standard, how do we measure success? What are the key ways to achieve carbon neutrality?

Most importantly is it energy conservation or doing smart things to achieve what we want from the technology such as virtualization through VMWare for example.
