The iPhone has GPRS right?

http://www.smstextnews.com/2007/06/the_apple_iphone_-_predictions_before_the_rush.html

I’ve been watching the iPhone commentary with interest, and was pleased to see smstextnews mention it and what they thought of it. I’d love to play with one, to see what it’s like, compare it (for email etc) to my Nokia E61, I sense it would sync effortlessly and just be a bit more reliable than Symbian – it sometimes gets emotional with me.
The only thing I’ve noticed after reading the article and checking the Apple site is it lacks GPRS. Their site says WiFi, Edge and bluetooh.

Isn’t that olden days? Is this just a US thing or are we going to have the iPhone GPRS-less, not being funny, but having had GPRS, dial up seems a bit olden days, a bit boring, and saying you’ve got wireless is fine, but not everywhere has wireless in the UK, and many places continue to charge for it.

    It’s an arse, eh?

Yes – GPRS is one of the reasons for my switch from the blackberry… Browsing the web was far far too slow…

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, if you actually want GPRS over EDGE… and why.
EDGE is the successor to GPRS and much faster. However in many countries, it is not very supported by the mobile carriers. That’s the downside I see.

My concern is mainly that not all networks support edge, adding gprs might have improved its functionality elsewhere that’s all.

I’ll probably buy one anyway, need to see if T-mobile are to release it…

Ahh, okay, now I understand. Yeah, you are right.

Yes the iPhone does have GPRS, where the 3G, or EDGE logo is may sometimes switch to a little circle. check Page 30 of the user guide http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf

it is very scarce though, you almost never see it (for example if i have 1 bar and i don’t have 3G on and EDGE isn’t available then the circle will be there but it is dreadfully slow)
