There remains demand for people with DataSynapse and Platform experience, from a development and an infrastructure side, whether its for assistance with porting those Excel applications on to a more resilient and structured grid solution, or assistance in upgrading DataSynapse from version 4.1 to 4.2.

I’ve been speaking with at least a few IT Mangers with relatively small grids, you know say a few hundred servers, two grid engineers, one for earlies, one for lates, with the work being shared with the other infrastructure guys if necessary. They’re paying relatively high salaries to these two individuals, and I have a question.  Should you not outsource it?

Not being funny, but if you’re paying £500 a day for 6 months each to two grid engineers, surely in this kind of setup, you’re better buying in a service, get two grid guys that will be replaced if they go on holiday, that are separate from any politics and can deliver what you ask, whether its’ politely asking the developers to optimize your code, or assist in strategy for adding a new grid application.

One manager told me that they had an employee who resigned, prepared to leave for a 20% pay rise, and the bank he worked for and another got into a bidding war, I’m waiting to see when someone like Excelian will jump in and say “Grid guys on demand available..”

The question is, is there such a service? Can I rent a grid person for 6 months, a year? Not being funny but I’m happy having a grid strategy guy as an employee, have him do everything aligned to my business, but the on-call, the day to day support and infrastructure evolution, can I not buy it in as a service?
