MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops statement

Apple has said that “some batteries” in its range of MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops have “performance issues”.

The company has issued a software update to fix the issue and has offered to replace defective batteries.

Well done to Apple admitting the problem and offering a solution. Laptop batteries have been an issue for a number of computer vendors, what’s key here is that the vendors intervene, swap the batteries and avoid debate. It’s the debate that causes the upset and damage to branding, arguably I’d rather be told, “We think their could be an issue with your battery, when you’ve got a second can we supply a new one to you for free?”

To be told as several of the vendors have to consumers (initially at least), it’s an unrelated technical issue, or put less politely “stop moaning and get off”.

The cost of doing this can be high, but the damage to your branding long term can be higher, the whole Ipod battery thing was a huge deal in the UK, all these angry people on consumer programs saying how upset they were.
