Global IT use pumps out around 2% of world carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, a figure equivalent to aviation, says analyst Gartner.

Keep in mind that the cost of energy continues to be the majority of your hosting costs, and that at some point someone will ask, what’s the carbon footprint of your data center – in which case thinking about it now makes sense.
