Data center management remains challenging

STAMFORD, Conn., April 30 /PRNewswire/ — 43% of data centers are running out of physical space and power density in racks is at an all time high, a survey by the Aperture Research Institute has discovered.
The Aperture Research Institute is the first organization dedicated to researching data centers, their challenges, and best practice management. It was established by Aperture Technologies Inc., the leading global provider of software for managing the physical infrastructure of data centers.
Do check this out, granted it’s a press release, but it does contain some interesting statistics and information about data center management, data center capacity and more importantly power remain important challenges, how you deal with it, consolidation or virtualization is up to you.
How pro-actively you manage the data center whether with tools like Aperture, or using an Excel spreadsheet is becoming an increasing part of not just the ‘data center management task’, but IT governance, managing which business lines get the space they need based on priority, availability etc, does Shared Infrastructure get the same importance as Capital Markets? As Asset Management or Securities?

Make sure your data center furniture fits your budget. The new server racks and data cabinets on the market these days are very inexpensive. There are many places to buy online. I found the quality and value of the network support furniture you can get to be above my expectations. Make sure you ask about the quality before you buy.
