Is Windows Vista being received as favorably as Microsoft suggests? In a news release yesterday, the company said it sold more than 20 million Windows Vista licenses in the first month of availability, more than twice the initial sales of Windows XP. Microsoft said the numbers reflected “broad interest” in Windows Vista’s features.

There will be the usual debate between the Vista pro and anti-vista people, regardless the debate and Vista use is set to continue, whether it was as successful, will be as successful as XP will be a topic of debate and something to watch.  My thoughts as follows:

  • For the time being windows xp is good enough
  • The different versions can be confusing to customers, the upgrade costs are high
  • Most people will buy it through a new pc

The challenge remains, those not running XP wont upgrade to vista, they’ll buy a new pc, those on XP home probably wont upgrade for quite a while and when they do will again probably buy a new pc.

Had Vista basic been £39 a copy, I suspect myself and everyone I know would have bought a copy, I’ll have four please. Amazon sell the OEM edition, and as a user has commented, not a bad upgrade, but wouldn’t pay the retail price…
