Acer plans to add blade servers and AMD Rev F Opteron-based servers to its x86 server line-up this year, possibly allowing the company to widening its lead with China-based server makers Lenovo and Langchao in terms of market share and shipment volumes, according to sources at server makers.

Acer will carefully control the production volume of its AMD Rev F-based servers, which will launch in the second quarter, noted sources at Acer, adding that the company plans to launch its first blade server in the third quarter of this year.

Very cool, I have to confess that I hadn’t come across the Acer server range before, doesn’t look bad, worth checking out to see if they can match your current vendor..

Wonder if they do low voltage processor servers?

    I seem to remember that some of the early low end X-Series servers that IBM where not far off being badged Acer Servers. Don’t quote me on this as it was a while ago.

    However Acer as a brand in the Laptop/Desktop market is my first choice for cost/quality when recommending entry level systems to family and friends – I have every faith that Acer can storm through and snatch some of the Blade market especially with the SMB’s
