Windows Vista suffers from a bug that causes many machines to stall while deleting, copying and moving files, a flaw that has provoked consternation in online forums. “I’ve seen this bug in action, and trust me, it’s as if you’re copying over a 64k link using only 256mb of RAM,” one Reg reader complained. “To add to the problem, you can’t cancel or anything.”

…”I simply can not believe that I updated to a new computer and put windows Vista on it to find that it’s not even capable of moving and deleting files in an efficient manner,” one disaffected user posted in the Microsoft forum….

It’s these little things which arise that cause users to get upset, couple that with having to Phone Microsoft for the patch can cause an emotional user base. It’ll probably be fixed in service pack 1, maybe it’s because I haven’t upgraded since XP, but perception wise I don’t remember having these issues?

What I see might be similar – when you copy/delete/move, there’s a slight lag of 1-3 seconds before it performs the actual operation. This can occur regardless of what’s happening on the box.

I’ve also seen quite a bit of degradation in copying files to/from Samba shares as well (as opposed to a Windows File Server, which admittedly run much quicker under Vista now, or so I think.)
