Name your favourite server

Was having a conversation with a friend about this, and thought it might be relevant.

Name you’re favourite server and why

LONS000246 – DL360, they very rarely failed us and when they did I knew the main bits to swap, where everything had to go even the RIB board, and the build process was always easy with it’s integrated array controller.

Name your least favourite server and why

LONS000322 – One of the security application servers, a Compaq Proliant 5000 with 128MB RAM, everytime I rebooted it was always wondering if it would come back, also I always found the Compaq Agents rather unstable, and it took 15 minutes to reboot, do I just press the power button or wait???

 What’s yours? Comments please..

Just remembered, a server possibly least favourable was a compaq prosignia 300 used by one of the application teams, I had to service pack it and security patch it, it had a pentium 90 running windows nt4 and took forever…

Favorite Server…LONxxxOFACxx series of servers – why, the name says it all and they application was just as good.

Server that gave me the most trouble was the one that I never touched, all I did was walking into an IT room at one of Notts County Council sites to patch a port to a switch and low and behold all Novell 3.11 servers in the room abended. Fingers were pointed and it took ages to explain even with the event logs that the temperature had exceed (not bad for a dozen early proliant servers in a room with no air con, where if you swung a cat around by its tail it may well have a sore head)

    Slight expansion…
