Sun Microsystems and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) have partnered to offer you new ways to cut costs in the data center with an exclusive energy incentive rebate on Sun Fire T1000 and T2000 servers with CoolThreads technology. The first of its kind, this new rebate program rewards PG&E customers who replace power-hungry servers with Sun’s innovative CoolThreads servers–cutting acquisition costs by as much as 35%.

I was downloading the drivers for the Sun X4600 which we’re trying with vmware, whilst I was waiting, I had a quick browse of the Sun site,  (I’ve never really played with Sun servers until now) and I noticed that the T1000 comes with an energy rebate!

Wow, I remember reading and posting that the manufacturers were setting up a rebate scheme for certain servers if they qualified with the energy companies as low energy, and it seems Sun’s 1u T1000 does. Very cool.

Interestingly, you can save up to $1000 in rebate, might not sound a lot, but think if you’ve got a datacenter full of them, worth considering these servers if you are eligble for the rebate, you’ll have to upgrade at some point, might as well do it whilst the rebate is available.
