Got an email, how do I know which HP/Compaq servers have an ILO?
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/remote-lightsout/server-slot-matrix.html or http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/riloe2/server-slot-matrix.html
A general rule, anything G3 except the DL760G2 should have an integrated lights out card. The way to tell physically is to check the back of the box, there should be two network cards and one ilo network port. The other way is to log on to the HP insight manager of the box http://servername:2301 and check there, or open the HP survey utility it should state if there is an ILO.
The Compaq Proliant servers and the DL760G2 use separate RIB or RIB2 cards, these are the non-integrated version of the ILO, the commands/scripts should be the same.
The firmware for the two RIB and RIB2 are different versions, and the different models need the cards put in different slots, so check the manual first, and to stop it being really slow, check out http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/ilo/support.html it tells you to turn the video down and change some mouse settings, well worth it, if you’re going to use it as a way of managing servers beyond the firewall.

Thanks Martin! Very handy to keep in mind which ones are ILO equipped, especially when you’re out at a new customer’s site and don’t know what’s in place yet
