VMware has made available a public beta of an updated version of VMware ACE, a tool that lets IT departments deploy locked-down virtual machines to workers. The new version explicitly supports operation of virtual machines from USB storage devices and includes a central management server to control them.

This is an excellent product, and I look forward to seeing how we can implement it. One of the big things for IT has been the management of a virtual infrastructure, vmware ace seems to be bringing it to the next level.  Does this allow me to avoid having to carry around my trusted Compaq Evo 400c around? Don’t get me wrong my trusted pentium 850 has helped me work from home at 3am on many a night, but given the chance to run a windows xp session with a checkpoint thing from my own desktop and I’d jump at the chance.  Think of how much money on laptop support you could save.
