SunGard taps virtualisation and automation to speed recovery times
The business continuity services provider says services help companies bring operations back online fast following an outage.

SunGard Availability Services today introduced a new initiative that marries its existing portfolio of business continuity services to a virtualized infrastructure to provide more flexible and cost-effective recovery, high-availability and managed services to businesses.

Network Computing reviewed the data recovery services market last year:

The company says the highly automated virtualised environment will help it both accelerate recovery times and scale new services quickly to meet short-term capacity needs

Virtualizing the infrastructure could bring significant savings, taking those legacy proliants, or some of the legacy unix boxes and consolidating them on to a virtual platform, could extend the life of your disaster recovery datacenter, reduce the energy costs, and therefore your carbon footprint.Â

Even if you virtualized everything say that’s over 4 years old that isn’t batch/database intensive, there will still be a significant number of core infrastructure sms/domain controllers etc.
