Problems deploying vmware
As you jump onto the virtualization bandwagon, you’ll hear a lot of varying claims about what virtualization can do. But is virtualization truly the greatest thing since sliced bread? Sure, it can be hugely helpful, but sometimes the hype might get ahead of the reality, and sorting out the truth can be a challenge.
Another interesting article discussing issues with vmware deployments and expectations. You should be thinking of vmware not as the answer to all your IT management and infrastructure issues, but as a tool to consolidate and work more efficiently with your limited datacenter capacity.
You can’t virtualize everything, but you can use vmware as an effective medium to consolidate/virtualize your development infrastructure for those appropriate applications, use the tool as it’s designed to be used, carry out the migrations in a structured way with the relevant processes/procedures that fit within your organization.

Learn from other organizations mistakes, move on and deploy knowing what issues they’ve come across and how they’ve been resolved. There are always horror stories implementing technologies, but mostly their political/emotional; I couldn’t work out the chargeback, the performance wasn’t good enough; in both cases, it’s not the technology, its the way it’s been implemented.
