On a serious note, SETTI, the cure for cancer grid applications already use users pcs when their idle with their screensavers etc, I wonder if at some stage there is going to be a drive towards this in the commercial sector. 

You want to put a DL360 in my garage, left powered on doing grid connected to your network? Fine, the cost is a mixture between paying for my sky tv, mobile phone bill or something like that..  The associated risks with doing this can be reduced, take away any software access to the box, keep it on broadband with the checkpoint security software, and perioidically reboot it, name it my housename/postcode 7cm111lq.

Doing a deal with sky/mobile phone company or something like that where the household is given a carrott for hosting the server, paying for the power will be cheaper than hosting it in a datacenter, doesn’t even need to be a sever, a small form factor pc would do. It all depends on your point of view. 

Anyway, back to blogging… Free sky tv or my mobile phone bill in exchange for several inches of my garage and a power socket….
