A peek at faster Power6, Cell chips | CNET News.com

IBM’s Power6 processor will be able to exceed 5 gigahertz in a high-performance mode, and the second-generation Cell Broadband Engine processor from IBM, Sony and Toshiba will run at 6GHz, according to the program for the International Solid State Circuits Conference that begins February 11 in San Francisco.

Very cool, but the thermal aspect is key, and if extra cores provide the same functionality at less heat/power consumption then the extra core way might win the race in the enterprise scene. Something to note though, what matters is how your application is coded, the application code will often be the driver when choosing which server and processor combination to choose.
