We are on the cusp of a major change in the way we build, maintain and adapt IT for business, and the HP Blade Workstation Solution is at the forefront of that change, said Jim Zafarana, vice president, worldwide marketing, workstations, HP. The new BladeSystem solution delivers the security, reliability and manageability of a data center infrastructure with high-quality workstation performance.
Additional benefits of the solution include significant cost savings in move/add/change (MAC) costs, system maintenance, power and cooling, and remote site operation, as well as improved data security, accessibility, work environment, disaster recovery support, and system up-time and availability.”
The article is right in the movement/change sense, at the moment internal cross charging/billing means to move a trader (has to happen outside business hours) requires a physical computer move and phone-line be redirected to take their extension with them, this costs in the region of £500+. Having a ‘floating’ desktop where the front end of the desk is a dumb terminal would reduce this cost significantly. In all the windows design theory I should be able to take a trader from computer1 to computer2 without issue, however, differences in how the trader works, email configurations and other things, mean in reality it doesn’t work like this. Thus the physical moving of trader whether it’s desk consolidation or departmental moves. Bring on the blade desktops to resolve, (on the basis your data center can accommodate it).
