IBM brings fresh hardware options to clusters – ZDNet UK
We’ve been talking about hardware accelerator cards for months at work, it’s a card that allows me to offload some of the mathematical calculations, or the specific cpu activity onto a separate card, to maximize the processor performance, and I see IBM are to offer the “clearspeed accelerator cards” using a pci-x expansion slot, this looks very interesting, need to compare the cost of these cards to the cost of a blade. The card cost to blade cost ratio needs to be right for these to take off. I’m not paying £350 for a card if a blade is £1000, taking into consideration that the blade has much more potential uses in business.
